Waukesha

GuitarTown 2013
Gibson Guitar Corporation has chosen Waukesha, the birth and resting place of Les Paul, inventor of the solid body electric guitar, for an encore of its nationally acclaimed GuitarTown public arts project.

GuitarTown Waukesha 2013 builds on the momentum of last year and feature 10-foot tall fiberglass Gibson Les Paul model guitars, regular sized guitars, and professional murals to be artistically designed by local students and nationally acclaimed visual artists, and displayed in front of the city’s landmarks and businesses. Each guitar sculpture and mural will celebrate a musician, personality, or artist unique to the region’s history with sponsorship by local businesses and individuals.

Sunset Strip

Gibson GuitarTown on the Sunset Strip launched in August 2010 featuring more than 20 10-foot tall fiberglass Gibson Les Paul model guitars strategically placed on the legendary Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, CA. Each guitar sculpture celebrated a musician, personality or artist unique to The Sunset Strip's history. As intended, the 24 guitars were auctioned off this past December 2011 after their yearlong "tour" with 100% of the $54,360 in profits going to charity.

Austin

Austin GuitarTown Project
The Austin GuitarTown project is a public arts project dedicated to bringing visual and musical artists together in a unique display of ten-foot Gibson Guitar sculptures to be placed throughout the city in November 2006. The project will benefit four designated Austin based charities.

Cleveland

Cleveland Rocks is a community arts project that celebrates the unique artistic excellence and diversity of the city of Cleveland. Featuring Epiphone Les Paul guitars that are to be artistically designed by Ohio based visual artists and celebrities, this project will serve as an artistic reminder and display of Cleveland’s lush musical heritage and unwavering commitment to music that Rocks!

Nashville

Nashville’s GuitarTown Project, a public arts project that featured 10-foot tall fiberglass Gibson Les Paul or Chet Atkins model guitars was launched in April 2004. The guitar sculptures were designed by local and nationally acclaimed visual artists and displayed throughout Nashville in front of city landmarks and businesses. Many guitar sculptures were partnered with a Country Music Artist and backed by a corporate sponsor. The GuitarTown Project united the Nashville art, music and business communities and raised money for four worthy charitable organizations: Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The DISTRICT, and the United Way of Nashville.

London

Gibson GuitarTown London was the first of its kind in Europe, which mirrors the original GuitarTown concept and idea originated in Nashville, Tennessee in 2005. The gala auction, which was held at The O2's IndigO2 club in November 2007, raised a total of 200,000 pounds ($400,000 U.S.). All money raised from the auction was given to Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, The Prince's Trust and Teenage Cancer Trust charities; see more on the charities below.
